Fraternity expansion is the process where a fraternity colony, or provisional chapter, is established at a college/university campus. "Colonization" occurs when a chapter has never existed on campus, whereas "recolonization" occurs when a dormant or closed chapter is re-established on campus.

Sigma Nu has been recolonizing our chapter at the University of Wyoming since the fall of 2013. This is a unique opportunity to members as recolonization really is a fresh beginning.

Together we’ll become a fraternity: holding business meetings, establishing an infrastructure, developing a budget and bylaws, planning activities, hosting and participating in community service and philanthropy, recruiting new members, creating a vision for our fraternity … and much, much more. By the end of the term, our group of men will be a fully functional fraternity, prepared to continue on their path to becoming the premier men’s organization on this campus.
